Tips on Composing the Concluding Chapter of a Dissertation

Dissertation includes different chapters but all are aimed to come to a conclusion of the study. From abstract to the chapter of conclusion it is being discussed throughout the dissertation that what is aim to conduct this research what is expected to be find and what would be concluded along this all conclusions of other studies are related with current study to determine the significance level of research area. So it clearly describes the importance of the chapter as almost readers first read the abstract then move to the conclusion but finally jump to the conclusion that addresses the whole study in a crux. Keeping in mind the importance of conclusion in writing dissertation some tips are aimed to be discussed in this article. First of all keep it in your mind what things to be avoided while writing conclusion chapter of the dissertation;
ü Long and Vague Conclusion: Sometimes we find a research that is well written as its headline or abstracted attracted you read that paper but at the end you could not understand what the purpose of the research was. Reason is that written conclusion might be vague or too long that has covered irrelevant part as well. So avoid writing too long conclusion with vague statement or many ideas are precise as well concise.

ü Short Conclusion: I’ve always found researches with a conclusion that is not more than two or three statements that really did not justify the research aim. So conclusion chapter must address the aim of your research that either you found the predicted results or not and how these results can be implacable in the relevant fields.

ü Impractical Conclusion: This type of conclusion also includes too many ideas and linkage of these vague ideas to the unrealistic implications also destroys the whole research purpose.

Second main point to keep it in your mind before writing conclusion is that define the goal of your conclusion chapter, means define what you want to tell reader about the results and implications of your study. Basically conclusion chapter should always include;

ü An overview of important elements or ideas studies in research

ü Provide a concise and clear summary of each point or idea of research

ü Findings of research with implications in the related fields and future studies

ü Limitations of current study

ü Recommendations for future researchers on the basis of research experience and research outcomes or recommendations for a particular situation if your study was a senior or case study based.

Final step is to write conclusion and for that these are simple tips to follow that will surely prevent you from unrealistic things or things not to follow and write a conclusion with clear a concise goal;

a) Use a true academic writing approach that includes a plan, write, proofread and take notes with inclusion of summary of writing. This approach will end with mini notes about the most important points of the study.

b) Now use these mini notes to write final conclusion of research

c) These mini notes are like raw material that you to remanufacture by eliminating irrelevant statement and adding practical implications of findings.

d) Finally truly add the limitations of your study those can be addressed in future researches.

e) To finalize the draft proofread and match it with the predicted outcomes that you have predefined.
